Regional triumphs for Conant, Prospect

Lake Park regional: Mid-Suburban League wrestling champ Conant prevailed in the team race with 241.5 points, ahead of runners-up Rolling Meadows and Schaumburg, who tied with 146 in the Class 3A field Saturday.

Conant's champions were Danny Madonia (120), Kyle Peisker (126), Bobby Alexander (138), Griff Rose (152), Dan Andress (160) and Michael Meier (220).

Schaumburg's Hazen Rice (106) and Rolling Meadows' Jacob Holm (113) were regional champs, along with Elk Grove's Sean Oldenburg (170) and Maine West's Joey Vogeney (182).

Glenbrook South regional: Prospect advanced to the Class 3A team sectional round by winning the nine-team meet in Glenview on Saturday.

The Mid-Suburban East champion Knights finished with 210.5 points, ahead of runner-up Wheeling (176.5).

Prospect's champions were Alex Preissing (120), Chris Rivera (126), Tanner Strobel (160), Matt Wroblewski (170) and James Ford (220).

Wheeling had winners in Mason Skloot (106), Jalen Shaw (145) and Tulga Zuunbayan (152).

Fremd's Alex Jacobs took the title at 195, and Palatine got second-place finishes from Oscar Rodriguez (106) and Jason Lopez (182).

Vernon Hills regional: St. Viator sophomore James Valentino won a regional championship at 285 pounds, one of four Lions to advance in the Class 2A state series.

Also advancing for the Lions were three third-place finishers: Brandon Suchyta (132), Shamon Johnson (170) and Joe McIntyre (195).

Antioch advanced as a team after scoring 136 points, 1 more than runner-up Vernon Hills.
