Wrestling: Fox Valley roundup

The Hampshire wrestling team couldn't overtake Crystal Lake Central for the Whip-Purs' Class 2A regional title on Saturday but Hampshire did send several wrestlers on to next weekend's Antioch sectional.

Sophomore Jake Szlenk (106 pounds), junior Kyle Szlenk (113), senior Anton Krocko (170) and junior Jonathon Jimenex (285) all won championships for Hampshire.

Also advancing for the Whip-Purs were freshman Carlos Puente (3rd, 120), junior Wylie Allen (2nd, 132) and sophomore Jacob Oury (2nd, 152).

CL Central won the team title with 214.5 points. Hampshire was second with 165.

At Belvidere: Burlington Central freshman Austin Macias won the 106-pound title at the Class 2A Belvidere regional and will compete at the Sterling sectional next Saturday. Also advancing for the Rockets were junior Ray Conklin (2nd, 152) and senior Christian Quiles (3rd, 160).

At Lake Park: Streamwood's Sunny You took second at 126 pounds at the Class 3A Lake Park regional. The junior will compete at the Glenbard North sectional next weekend.
