Girl Scouts can take your cookie order online
Local Girl Scouts are taking orders for the 2015 Girl Scout Cookies through a new national Digital Cookie platform. This addition to the Girl Scout Cookie Program expands the program's ability to teach girls new skills for business and life.
Digital Cookie 1.0 is a pilot program that allows girls to sell cookies online. The online platform runs through March 9. Each girl will have her own shareable URL where customers may order cookies directly from her. Digital Cookie 1.0 will not replace the traditional order-taking method girls currently use. However, it is a new channel for girls to market and sell cookies while enhancing their leadership and skills experience.
New this year is Rah-Rah Raisins, a cookie featuring whole grain oats, plump juicy raisins, and trendy Greek yogurt-flavored chunks. The team of flavors in this new, crisp cookie is likely to attract customers and increase sales. The rich, creamy taste of Greek yogurt has exploded in popularity over the last several years. And, in a national Girl Scout Cookie Survey, more than 65 percent of participants indicated they wanted an oatmeal raisin Girl Scout Cookie.
This year's cookie lineup also includes Do-si-dos, a crunchy oatmeal cookie with peanut butter, and Samoas, a vanilla cookie covered with caramel, coconut, and a rich, chocolaty coating. Of course, you can't forget Tagalongs, a tasty cookie topped with peanut butter and chocolate, or Thin Mints, the thin wafer covered with a smooth chocolaty coating and made with natural peppermint. Girls will also take orders for Trefoils, a delicate tasting shortbread, and Savannah Smiles, a cool and crisp lemon wedge cookie. Each cookie variety sells for $4 a box.
Girls also have the opportunity to give back to their community through the Girl Scout Cookie Program with the Gift of Caring: "Cookies for the Military" or the "Community Gift of Caring." Girls can choose between offering customers the chance to purchase cookies for members of the military or purchase cookies for a community organization designated by the troop.

Proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program directly benefit girls in northern Illinois. Each troop receives a portion of proceeds to use as funds for troop activities. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is one of the few youth-oriented programs in the country that provides its participants the ability to decide how to direct the proceeds generated through their business activity.
