2 Coast Guard officers shot at condo complex were married

BOURNE, Mass. (AP) - Two Coast Guard petty officers shot at a condominium complex, one of them fatally, were married, the Coast Guard said.

Lisa Trubnikova was killed in Thursday's shooting in Bourne, an hour's drive south of Boston. Her spouse, Anna Trubnikova, was wounded and was hospitalized in stable condition.

Another Coast Guard member, Adrian Loya, has been charged in the shooting. Loya, of Chesapeake, Virginia, pleaded not guilty to charges including murder and was detained without bail.

Loya also lit a car on fire to hamper police, planted fake bombs and opened fire on police officers, authorities said.

One police officer, Jared MacDonald, was shot in the back. MacDonald's family said Friday he was doing well but faces a long recovery. The family's statement was released by Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he was being treated.

Authorities haven't disclosed a motive for the deadly shooting episode, which Bourne's police chief called "crazy and hectic." The shooting occurred on Loya's 31st birthday.

Lisa Trubnikova, 31, was based at Coast Guard Base Cape Cod. Anna Trubnikova, 30, is based at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England.

Rear Adm. Linda Fagan offered her thoughts and prayers for the families, friends and loved ones of those affected by the shooting.

"In committing our support to them, our focus turns to remembering the life and service of Petty Officer Lisa Trubnikova and aiding the recovery of Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova," she said in a statement.

She acknowledged the speedy response of the Bourne Police Department and said it "saved the life of Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova and removed the threat to the community." She thanked MacDonald, a Coast Guard veteran.

"We extend our heartfelt thanks to those in the community and the Coast Guard family who stand alongside us as we mourn the tragic loss of Petty Officer (2nd Class Lisa Trubnikova) and wish the speedy recovery of Petty Officer 3rd Class Anna Trubnikova and Officer Jared MacDonald," she said.
