Old-time singer Charlie Parr signs to Red House Records

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Songwriter-guitarist Charlie Parr has signed with Minnesota's Red House Records.

Parr's new studio album, "Stumpjumper," will be released by the St. Paul-based label on April 28.

A veteran of the Duluth music scene, Parr traveled to rural North Carolina to record the album with producer Phil Cook. It's the first album Parr has recorded outside of Minnesota and his first to feature a full band.

Parr says Red House has "always held an exalted place" in his heart because of the label's connection to the Midwest and other blues, folk and roots singers.

Parr is launching a tour that goes through April and includes a date this Saturday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with fellow Minnesota players Trampled by Turtles.
