ECC to host free financial aid workshop Feb. 8

Elgin Community College is hosting a free financial aid workshop Sunday, Feb. 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Building E University and Business Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission, the Illinois Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Illinois Association for College Admissions Counseling are working together to provide the College Awareness and Preparation project as a means of improving students' and families' awareness of college financial aid opportunities, along with the college selection and admissions process.

Students preparing to enroll in college this fall should begin the financial aid application now. All students, from high school juniors to adults returning to college, as well as parents seeking help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid will receive individual assistance from ECC's financial aid experts during the workshop.

Families should bring all completed or estimated 2014 income tax forms, along with any other asset information for students and parents, in order to complete the FAFSA. There is no cost and students are welcome even if they are not attending ECC.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Mary Crowe, assistant director of financial aid and scholarships, at (847) 214-7432.
