3 Arlington Heights residents lose $15,000 in scams

Three Arlington Heights residents were scammed out of about $15,000 in total in various cons executed over a three-day period, according to reports in the town's police blotter.

On Jan. 27, an Arlington Heights resident lost $10,000 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. after receiving a bogus notice that the victim had won a cash prize. The victim was instructed to send the money in a money order before the prize could be sent.

On Jan. 28, an Arlington Heights resident lost $2,000 after receiving a phone call around 1 p.m. from a scammer claiming a grandson was in jail and needed bail money. The victim purchased MoneyPak cards and provided the scammer with the serial numbers.

On Jan. 29, an Arlington Heights resident lost $2,400 around 8 a.m. after receiving a phone call from a scammer claiming that a grandson was in jail and needed the money to post bail. The victim wired the money to the offender.
