Central Illinois spared brunt of blizzard
LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) - Much of central Illinois was spared the brunt of the blizzard that struck the northern part of the state.
While more than 18 inches of snow fell in parts of Chicago on Sunday, communities in the central Illinois saw less than 7 inches - and in some cases a lot less.
Springfield was bracing for as much as 6 inches of snow but when the system left the area, the National Weather Service's office in Lincoln says it left behind just more than 2 inches of snow.
Weather service meteorologist Daryl Onton says some communities saw more rain than snow because the temperatures stayed a bit too high.
He says it will be sunny in much of the area on Monday, with high temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees.
