Three in DuPage die shoveling snow
Three people died Sunday in DuPage County after shoveling snow, according to a news release from the DuPage County coroner's office.
Officials say the deceased were shoveling snow at their respective homes when they collapsed.
The deceased included a 53-year-old Downers Grove man, a 60-year-old Naperville man and a 64-year old Winfield man.
All three were taken to local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead from “heart-related issues,” officials said. The Downers Grove man died Sunday morning, while the Naperville and Winfield man died later in the day.
Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Dastych said anyone who has a heart condition or multiple risk factors, such as poor diet or obesity, should reconsider shoveling wet, heavy snow.
Symptoms of a problem could include chest, neck, jaw or arm pain or heavy, sudden sweating, as well as any other unusual feelings that are typically not normal.
