St. Charles library offers concert, book sale, workshop

• There will be two Book Discussion Groups on the second Tuesday of the month. On Feb. 10, both the 10 a.m. group and 7 p.m. group will discuss "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd.

• The Limitations will be the next musicians to perform at the library's Sunday Concert Series on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room. This trio of experienced and knowledgeable musicians takes you on a journey back to the great American music prior to the British invasion with a focus on Sun Records, which spawned Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins and many others.

• The Anime Club will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Carnegie Community Room. You will sample and rate chocolates from around the world at the Hetalia Chocolate Challenge.

• Hang out and tinker with some tech at Tech Yeah! On Thursday, Feb. 12, explore Arduino or make a media center with Raspberry Pi from 3 to 5 p.m. Take apart old technology to see how it operates. Polish your coding skills. It's all about what you want to do.

• Multi-Age Story Time is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. until March 25. Parents and grandparents, simply arrive early and present your St. Charles Library card for admittance. Families living outside the Library District may attend for $2 per person on a space-available basis.

• The Used Book Sale: Everything for Kids! will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Books for infants through middle school will be available.

• "Stories Live: Great Big Enormous Turnip" will be Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 and 11 a.m. This story time for infants through age 5 with their caregivers nurtures early literacy skills by looking at one story through storytelling, song and more; register now to save your spot.

• "Traveling Tales" offers surprise-filled library story times at destinations around the St. Charles community. The upcoming stops are Nick's Pizza at 990 S. Randall Road in Elgin on Monday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. and McDonald's at 3900 E. Main St. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 4:30 p.m. Families may register or drop in for this event. Residents without library cards may register for them at the event, and patrons who show their library cards will receive a special gift.

• "The Past is Exciting and Important," a workshop for Bear Scouts, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 5 p.m., explores world and local history. The Library Tour and Hunt Scout Workshop for girl and boy scouts of all ages is on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 5 p.m. Scouts will discover library resources and practice locating them with clues on a library hunt customized to their grade levels.

• The "Books, Books, Books Workshop for Wolf Scouts" will be 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23. It features information about secret codes and, of course, books. Scout leaders, register your troop for events in person or by phone: registration ends two days before the scheduled event.

• The Book Character Visit with the Cat in the Hat will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13. Families can meet and be photographed with the costumed book character. Parents and grandparents, register and bring your cameras for this event at the library in partnership with Barnes & Noble of Geneva.

• Bilingual Spanish Story Time is a sharing of books, fingerplays, activities and songs in both Spanish and English for infants through age 5 and their caregivers. Siblings may attend. The next session will be 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. Registration is required.
