Not guilty plea entered for 4th Indiana house blast suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A judge has entered a not guilty plea for the latest man charged with murder and arson in an Indianapolis house explosion that killed two people and damaged nearly 80 homes.

Marion Superior Court Judge Sheila Carlisle entered the plea Friday for 44-year-old Gary Thompson of Indianapolis. She also appointed him a public defender, Heather Barton.

Thompson faces 34 of counts of arson, 12 counts of arson resulting in bodily injury, 1 count of conspiracy to commit arson and two counts of murder.

Carlisle granted Barton's request that Thompson be held separately from two other men charged in the case. Homeowner Monserrate Shirley also is charged.

Carlisle ordered Thompson held in the Marion County Jail without bond.

Neither Thompson nor Barton spoke to reporters following the hearing.
