New Yorker pleads guilty to using fake credit card

A New York man pleaded guilty to using a counterfeit credit card in Wheeling and other places for a total of about $18,000 in fraudulent purchases.

Zacky Taylor, 25, of Copiague, New York, pleaded guilty last week and was sentenced to 30 months probation and ordered to pay $694 in fines, according to court records.

Prosecutors say Taylor and co-defendant Prince Omigie, 27, of Brooklyn, New York, used fake credit or debit cards to make purchases at a Wheeling Walmart store on Sept. 15, 2014.

The men stated to police they flew to Chicago from New York for the purpose of using fraudulent credit cards, prosecutors said.

Taylor used a fake credit card to load $800 onto a Walmart gift card and Omigie attempted to do the same, prosecutors said. Police later recovered 16 Target gift cards worth $1,000 they say the men obtained using the fraudulent debit or credit cards.
