DAR recognizes MHS Social Studies Department

Submitted by Mundelein High School District 120

The Mundelein High School Social Studies Department was recently presented with the 2014 American History Committee award from the Chicago Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Kristen Bartholomew, a former Social Studies Department member and current business education teacher at MHS, presented the award. Bartholomew is the American History Committee Chair for the Chicago Chapter.

She recognized the work the Social Studies Department did this school year that aligned with the values of the DAR, particularly patriotism and education ideals.

"MHS Social Studies has done a wonderful job incorporating the study of veterans from MHS into their history curriculum, as well as featuring a schoolwide presentation of 'Raising Ms. President,'" Bartholomew said.

With no local chapter in Mundelein, Bartholomew wanted to recognize MHS and suggested they receive the annual award from Chicago Chapter, the first chapter in the United States. The DAR is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
