Detroit NAACP to celebrate installation of elected officers

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit branch of the NAACP will hold an installation ceremony for its recently elected leadership.

The event is scheduled Thursday evening at the Federal Reserve Bank building on East Warren Avenue in Detroit.

U.S. Rep. John Conyers had been scheduled to administer the oath of office to branch president the Rev. Wendell Anthony, but won't attend due to a scheduling conflict.

Anthony was re-elected to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People local office in November and will begin his 12th term as president. He's pastor of Fellowship Chapel in Detroit.

Officers and executive committee members also include first vice president John Johnson, Jr., second vice president Jimmy Settles Jr. and third vice president Alice Thompson.
