Man found guilty of murder in 2013 shooting at gas station
BELVIDERE, Ill. (AP) - A 23-year-old Rockford man accused of providing a gun used in the fatal shooting of a rival gang member has been found guilty of first-degree murder.
Deontae Murray also was convicted Thursday of unlawful use of a weapon with a previous conviction and possession of a firearm by a gang member. He faces at least 38 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/1Dhyyjh ) reports Murray supplied a fellow Latin Kings gang member, Marco Hernandez, with the gun used to shoot and kill Richard Herman at a Belvidere gas station in April 2013. State prosecutors say the Latin Kings, and Herman's gang, Surenos 13, are arch rivals.
Hernandez was convicted in July of first-degree murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Sentencing for Murray is scheduled on April 13.
