Broadway-bound 'Gigi' opens 1st at Kennedy Center in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Broadway-bound musical revival "Gigi" is opening at the Kennedy Center, starring Vanessa Hudgens, who will make her Broadway debut.

The new production has its opening Thursday and runs through Feb. 12 in Washington.

"Gigi" is set in Paris at the turn of the last century. The musical comes from Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, the same composer and lyricist as "My Fair Lady." It centers on a teenage girl being groomed to serve as a companion to a bored, wealthy playboy until they realize they've fallen in love.

Hudgens is best known for starring in Disney's "High School Musical" movies. She's joined by Tony Award-winning actress Victoria Clark; Dee Hoty; Corey Cott, from "Newsies"; and Howard McGillin, a longtime title character in "The Phantom of the Opera."
