LSU DB Jalen Mills gets April trial date

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU defensive back Jalen Mills faces an April 8 trial date for misdemeanor simple assault related to a woman's accusation that he punched her in the mouth.

Mills was arrested in June after a woman claims he punched her outside his apartment. Mills' attorney, Brent Stockstill, entered a plea of not guilty on his client's behalf in October.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/1BkzwbX ) state District Judge Chip Moore has been assigned to hear the case.

According to a warrant, the woman needed four stitches to close a cut on her lip. A witness corroborated the victim's story and both picked Mills out of a photo lineup.

Stockstill, however, says it was actually Mills' girlfriend who threw the punch and that the victim gave authorities multiple conflicting accounts of what happened.
