NAIA Southern Oregon fundraising for championship rings

Southern Oregon University won its first NAIA national trophy in football this past season. Now the school is looking for some help getting championship rings to go with it.

Unlike in NCAA Division I, NAIA does not pay for championship rings. So Southern Oregon is not only hitting up its donors to try to cover the approximately $37,000 it will cost for 150 rings at $250 apiece, it also set up a page on its athletic website where anybody can make a donation.

"Especially being a state school, there's not a lot of extra money going around," associated athletic director Bobby Heiken said. "We had to attack it as a fundraiser."

Heiken said SOU has already raised about $14,000.

The Raiders beat Marian College 55-31 to win the NAIA championship.
