More than 300 miles of Chicago roadway to be repaved

CHICAGO (AP) - The city of Chicago has announced work crews will resurface at least 300 miles of roadway this year.

In a news release, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says the city has identified the first 61 miles of to be resurfaced.

Those streets include some of the best known roadways in the city. For example, a 1.5 mile stretch of Lake Shore Drive between North and Grand avenues will be resurfaced. A two-mile stretch of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive between Cermak Road and 37th Street will also be resurfaced, as will 2.1 miles of Cicero Avenue between Division Street and the Eisenhower Expressway.

Emanuel's office says last year a record 343 miles of roadway were resurfaced by city crews, including more than 1,000 blocks of residential streets.
