Bowling fundraiser to benefit resource center for educators

A resource center for local educators will benefit from a North Central College-sponsored bowling and billiards fundraiser Jan. 30.

The fourth annual Snow Bowl to benefit the Dr. Lora L. Tyson Education Curriculum Resource Center will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Brunswick Zone XL, 1515 W. Aurora Ave., Naperville. The cost is $30 per person for bowling or $20 per person for socializing; a portion of the cost will directly benefit the Resource Center. To register, contact Mary Reynolds, associate director of alumni events, at (630) 637-5202 or mmreynolds@noctrl.edu.

The evening will feature bowling, billiards, a cash bar and networking opportunities with generations of North Central students, alumni, faculty and friends.

Tyson was a popular and influential member of North Central's education faculty from 1999 until her death in 2008 from cancer. She envisioned a place where students could gather to plan lessons, create materials to use in those lessons, and use a variety of resources. Her vision became a reality when North Central established the Tyson Resource Center after her death.

Housed in the lower level of Oesterle Library, the Tyson Resource Center provides work space to conduct research, share teaching ideas, plan lessons and access teaching tools, materials and interactive technologies. More than 420 North Central alumni work as educators at schools in Naperville and throughout six counties in the Chicago area.

North Central College offers several opportunities for students interested in education, including undergraduate degrees in elementary education and secondary education and a minor in English language learning. Undergraduate majors also are offered in art education, music education and physical education, as well as a minor in health education. The college offers a master of arts degree in education, with emphasis in curriculum and instruction or educational leadership and administration. A master of arts in education is among seven graduate degrees offered at North Central College.
