Moody helps Iowa State upend No. 8 Texas 58-57

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Nikki Moody scored 14 points, including two free throws with 17. 5 seconds left, to help Iowa State upset No. 8 Texas 58-57 on Sunday.

Texas guard Brooke McCarty then missed a jump shot with two seconds left.

Seanna Johnson added 13 points for Iowa State (15-4, 5-2 in Big 12).

Kelsey Lang led Texas (14-4, 3-4) with 12 points, but she attempted only one shot in the second half while surrounded by defenders. Texas, which has lost four of its last five games, took a 54-52 lead with 2:15 remaining on a 3-point basket by freshman McCarty. Lang, swarmed by defenders inside, passed the ball out to McCarty.

After a missed jump shot by Moody, Texas forward Nekia Jones converted a three-point play with 55 seconds left.

Bryanna Ferstrom made a layup for Iowa State that left the Cyclones trailing by a point with 33 seconds left. Then Moody hit her two free throws.

Iowa State trailed by nine with a little more than 13 minutes remaining. The Cyclones needed seven minutes to overtake Texas. They went ahead when Nicole Blaskowsky stole a pass from Jones and raced down court for a basket.

Texas committed nine turnovers in the second half.

Texas played its first full game without forward Nneka Enemkpali, a senior who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first half of a loss at Baylor on Monday. Enemkpali was leading Texas in scoring and the Big 12 in rebounding.

Iowa State handed Texas its first defeat of the season after 13 victories, 59-57, on Jan. 10 in Ames. The Cyclones, trailing by 18 points late in the first half, made a 14-0 run and erased the deficit in less than 10 minutes.

Texas missed 10 straight shots during that stretch that bridged both halves. The Longhorns shot just 21 percent in the second half.

Iowa State trailed by 36-29 at halftime on Sunday. The normally sound Cyclones committed nine turnovers in the half, only three fewer than their average per game that ranks as 10th best in the nation.

Texas turned those turnovers into 10 points. The Longhorns continually worked the ball inside, scoring 20 of their 36 points in the half
