Officer, motorist wounded in exchange of gunfire near Flint

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a motorist shot a Flint-area police officer during a traffic stop in Genesee County. They say the motorist also was wounded.

Flint Township police Lt. Jim Baldwin says the officer stopped the driver about 10:30 p.m. Friday and says a scuffle broke out between the officer and the man.

Baldwin tells The Flint Journal that the 54-year-old man pulled out a gun and shot at the officer, hitting him.

The lieutenant says the officer called for backup, and other officers arrived. Baldwin says the officers shot and wounded the attacker.

WILX-TV said Sunday that the wounded officer and the suspect are in stable condition Sunday.

Authorities didn't immediately release the names of the two men.
