Weather a factor in Vernon Hills crash that injured three

Vernon Hills authorities said winter weather was a factor in a near head-on collision Sunday at the intersection of Lakeview Parkway and Fairway Drive that sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Battalion Chief Kevin Wodrich, of the Vernon Hills Fire Department, said the crash involving a compact car and an SUV occurred just before 4 p.m.

Wodrich said one driver admitting losing control of her vehicle when trying to stop at the four-way intersection. The vehicle veered left and struck the second vehicle, which had stopped in the intersection waiting to make a left turn onto Fairway Parkway.

Vernon Hills police said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The drivers of both vehicles, as well as a child riding in the SUV, were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with nonlife threatening injuries, authorities said.

Wodrich said the crash shut down the intersection for 40 to 45 minutes. While the intersection was closed, all traffic was routed north on Lakeview, he said.
