Colgate edges Loyola (Md) 59-58

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) - Damon Sherman-Newsome scored 16 points - including the winning goal in the final seconds - as Colgate edged Loyola (Md.) 59-58 on Saturday.

Sherman-Newsome's game-winning bucket came with 19 seconds to play, putting Colgate back on top to finish. The Raiders (9-12, 6-2 Patriot League) had fallen behind in the final 2 minutes after leading most of the game.

Colgate led by seven points at the break and took a 51-38 advantage midway through the second half before Loyola went on an 18-5 run to tie it 56-56 with 4:34 to play. Two minutes later, the Greyhounds (7-12, 3-5) went up by two, 58-56, on an Eric Laster layup. But Sherman-Newsome clinched it for the Raiders with a free throw followed by a layup after a Loyola turnover.

Matt McMullen added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Raiders. Ethan Jacobs had 11.

Laster led the Greyhounds with 20 points.
