Harper falls short against MATC

Some familiar themes were on display Saturday as the Harper College women's basketball team dropped a 65-45 decision to Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Josyln Nicholson once again led the way for the Hawks with 22 points and 8 rebounds, but Harper (7-14, 1-5) couldn't overcome 34 turnovers.

"We need to find a way to stay calm," said Harper coach Jenny Turpel.

Which wasn't easy, as MATC succeeded in forcing some poor decisions.

"They played good defense," Turpel said. "They pressured the ball really well."

Harper point guard Kim Herzog (4 points) missed the second half due to injury. Yet the Hawks were able to take better collective care of the ball in the second half.

Ashante Sims was active all afternoon for Harper, scoring 12 points (on 5-for-12 shooting) and gathering 5 rebounds.

Briana McKinney, Trisha Patton and Kiara Halberg each scored in double digits for MATC.
