Carmel Catholic to host 1985, '86 Sweet 16 basketball reunion

Seniors from the 1984-85 and 1985-86 Carmel Catholic High School basketball teams will return to Carmel Friday, Feb. 6, nearly 30 years after their back-to-back Sweet 16 visits.

The teams will be recognized during halftime of the varsity basketball game at home Feb. 6 against St. Patrick beginning at 7 p.m. The reunion also marks the anniversary of the '85 and '86 teams securing Carmel's first and second-ever IHSA sectional boys basketball championship titles.

Prior to the varsity game, a welcome reception will be held in the Salvi Arena balcony during the sophomore basketball game beginning at 5:30 p.m. A postgame reception will be held at a local establishment, followed the next day by an open gym in Carmel's Salvi Arena.

Both teams were coached by Frank Belmont, '71, who played on the basketball team while he was a student at Carmel Catholic High School.

Carmel Catholic High School is a Catholic, college preparatory and secondary school for young men and women in ninth through 12th grades. The school enrolls approximately 1,350 students each year.
