Illinois' Scott air base loses bid for mission center

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois Air Force base has lost the competition to become the site of a new installation and mission support center that could have meant hundreds of jobs.

The Air Force says Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas won the competition over three other finalists that include Scott Air Force Base near Mascoutah, east of St. Louis.

The Air Force says it chose the Texas base as the future home of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center headquarters after analyzing operational considerations, installation attributes and economic and environmental factors at all four sites.

The two other finalists were in Ohio and Virginia.
