Suburban Chicago man sentenced for defrauding futures firm

CHICAGO (AP) - A 30-year-old suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding a futures trading company he worked for out of more than $1 million.

A judge in Chicago sentenced Joseph Tagler on Thursday. The Oak Lawn man pleaded guilty in August to wire fraud for taking the money from Chicago-based Eagle Market Makers Inc. He worked as the firm's back office manager and sat on its board of directors.

U.S. prosecutors say Tagler forged signatures on checks and concealed the thefts between 2012 and 2014. The FBI arrested him last April.

U.S. District Judge James Zagel ordered Tagler to pay nearly $1.2 million in restitution. After he leaves prison, he'll also be on two years of court-supervised released.

He's due to report to prison April 7.
