B.R. Ryall YMCA to add new weight room

A new weight room is expected to open in early February at the B.R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County in Glen Ellyn.

To meet the needs of members looking for a more complete total body workout, the weight room will have new equipment, including Smith Machine, Olympic Bench, Squat Rack and Power Cage. The room will also be outfitted with wall mirrors and a rubberized floor.

"Members have been requesting a larger free weight area and additional plate-loaded machines, and we are very excited to be meeting their needs," said Megan Schici, health and wellness director at B.R. Ryall YMCA.

"Lifting weights and gaining muscle is an important part of a well-rounded fitness routine. It is the best way to ramp up your metabolism for an all-day, higher caloric burn."

Only a modest construction project is expected since the new weight room will be located in the current teen room, The Zone, which is directly adjacent to the Wellness Center at the Y, 49 Deicke Drive, Glen Ellyn.

A doorway will be constructed so entry can be made directly from the Wellness Center. Construction should begin mid-January and equipment should be available for member use by early February 2015. The teen room will be relocated to a different part of the building.

In an effort to keep the building in good condition so that it continues to be a welcoming place for the community, earlier improvements made during Phase One included installation of a new roof, refinishing of floors in the gym and group exercise room, the pools drained for routine cleaning and maintenance, along with the installation of the new UV system in the pool, and various facility cosmetic and repurposing projects.

During January, community members may join the Y for free during the $0 Joiner Fee Membership Promotion, saving up to $150. The offer expires Jan. 31, cannot be combined with any other offer and excludes youth memberships.
