Roundtree saves No. 12 North Carolina women against NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Brittany Roundtree went 8-8 from the foul line in the final 24 seconds on Thursday as No. 12 North Carolina edged North Carolina State 67-63 in the 100th meeting between the two Atlantic Coast Conference rivals.
Roundtree, who missed all five of her field goals, finished with nine points for the Tar Heels (17-3, 4-2), who now trail the Wolfpack (12-7, 3-3) 51-49 with their eighth-straight win in the oldest league rivalry.
Danielle Butts had 12 points, Stephanie Mavunga had 11 and Alisha Gray had 10 with 12 rebounds.
Len'Nique Brown-Hoskin had 21 points, Dominique Wilson 15 with 10 rebounds and Jennifer Mathurin 14 for N.C. State, which led 26-21 at halftime.
The Wolfpack didn't lose the lead until Latifah Coleman and Jessica Washington made back-to-back 3s to make it 39-38 UNC at 12:35.
The game was tight in the final five minutes with Brown-Hoskin pulling N.C. State within 63-62 with seven seconds left.
