Grand jury reviewing fatal police shooting in Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana grand jury will recommend whether seven Elkhart police officers should face criminal charges in the shooting death of a man they say raised a gun toward them while trying to flee.
The Elkhart Truth reports (http://bit.ly/1CMkYEk ) Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. was scheduled to begin presenting evidence Tuesday in the Sept. 23 shooting of 32-year-old Joseph Lee of Goshen. It isn't known how long it would take to present the evidence or how long it would take for the six-member grand jury to return a decision.
A news release from the prosecutor's office said Hill is the legal adviser of the grand jury and must approve any indictment for it to be valid.
State police submitted a report on the shooting to Hill in November.
