Baltimore hires Trestman as offensive coordinator

Just three weeks and one day after being fired as the Bears' head coach, Marc Trestman has a new job as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator.

Trestman is expected to sign a three-year contract replacing Gary Kubiak, who left John Harbaugh's staff in Baltimore to succeed new Bears head coach John Fox as the Denver Broncos' head coach.

Trestman was fired by the Bears after a 5-11 season that included a significant drop-off in offensive productivity. The 2014 Bears finished 20th in total yards and 21st in points after an exceptional 2013 season in which they were No. 8 and No. 2 in those categories, respectively.

Trestman's play-calling this past season drew widespread criticism because of its pass-heavy nature. The Bears were tied for seventh in 2014 with 38.1 pass attempts per game but only 30th with 22.2 runs per game.

After taking over a Bears team that had finished 10-6 in 2012, Lovie Smith's final season, Trestman's 2013 team was 8-8 with an explosive offense that could not compensate for the worst defense in franchise history.

Before being hired by the Bears, Trestman, 59, was the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League for five seasons. Before that he was an offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns.
