Chicago man charged in hit-and-run that killed 2 pedestrians

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police have arrested a 24-year-old Chicago man in a hit-and-run crash that killed two men as they crossed the street on the city's Northwest Side.

In a news release, the police department says Jose Estrada has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated drunken driving resulting in death and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence.

Authorities allege Estrada was speeding Saturday shortly after 10 p.m. when the vehicle struck the men. They say he allegedly drove away and crashed into three parked cars three blocks away.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the two men as 35-year-old Ramon Cruz and 56-year-old Pablo Vega.

The county state's attorney says a judge set Estrada's bond at $500,000 during a hearing on Monday.
