Chicago woman dies after falling ill on flight from Florida

CHICAGO (AP) - Spirit Airlines says a 59-year-old woman died after she became unresponsive on a flight last week to Chicago.

Airline spokesman Paul Berry and the Cook County medical examiner's office say Santa Teresa-Robles Morales fell ill on a flight from Tampa on Tuesday.

A doctor began performing CPR on the woman and the captain sought priority clearance as the plane approached O'Hare International Airport. The woman's adult son was traveling with her.

Medical personnel came on board the plane and tried resuscitate the woman. But the medical examiner's office says Morales was pronounced dead at 1:24 p.m.

An autopsy cited multiple causes of death, including hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.
