Harper students join Saturday in MLK Day of Service
Harper College students are taking to heart Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s words, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" with the community college's first MLK Day of Service.
Students will come together from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Wojcik Conference Center on the college's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.
They'll work on a service project, design a mural of King and hear from keynote speaker Noelle Jones, founding English teacher at the Greater Lawndale High School for Social Justice in Chicago.
The goal is to honor the man who devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice and economic opportunity for all.
"MLK Day is a chance to start the year off right by making an impact in your community," said Chris George, coordinator of Student Leadership and Civic Engagement at Harper. "We want to give Harper students the opportunity to pay tribute to his legacy."
