MHS musician plays in All-State theater production

Submitted by Mundelein High School District 120

Adam Huston, a sophomore, was recently selected to play French horn in the orchestra pit for the All-State production of "Pippen" at the 40th Annual Illinois High School Theatre Festival at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The IHSTF is the largest and oldest noncompetitive high school theater festival in the world.

More than 4,000 students from 150 high schools, teachers, university representatives, exhibitors and volunteers came together Jan. 8-10 to help present more than 25 different high school productions and more than 150 workshops.

The 2015 All-State Company of "Pippen" was comprised top student performers, technicians and musicians from across the state of Illinois. More than 200 students from 75 Illinois schools auditioned or interviewed for this year's production, and only 92 were selected for the final company.

"I was not fully sure what to expect going into 'Pippin,'" said Huston. "But it was so much more than I ever could have expected. It was an amazing experience and an honor to be able to work with such talented people in the cast, the crew, and the pit.

"We worked hard, shared lots of laughs and had a lot of fun. This helped to affirm that I want to always be doing something with music my entire life. I will cherish every moment from this experience."

MHS Band Director Jerold Shelato said, "We are proud of Adam's participation in the All-State Theater production this year. Adam is a very talented sophomore French horn player in the Mundelein Band Program, and we were excited that he had the opportunity to participate with some the state's best musicians in the production. It's great to see a student get so excited about a performance opportunity."

Mundelein High School was well represented at the festival, as the MHS Theatre World High School Premier of "TRUST" by David Schwimmer and Andy Bellin was selected to be performed.
