Michigan wildlife managers plan winter angler interviews

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - State wildlife managers say they'll interview winter anglers to get information that can help with fisheries management.

Creel clerks with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will be asking people how long they fished, what species they were targeting, what they caught and where they live.

In a few cases, the clerks also will ask to measure or weigh fish and take scale samples to gather important biological information.

It's part of a long-term monitoring program designed to track recreational fisheries across Michigan waters of the Great Lakes and selected inland waters.

The winter interviews will take place at Saginaw Bay, the Les Cheneaux Islands, Munising, Au Train, Marquette, Keweenaw Bay, Lake Gogebic and Little Bay de Noc.
