Man faces trial in 2012 fire that killed ex-girlfriend

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a suburban Chicago man charged with first-degree murder for setting a fire that killed his former girlfriend.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that (http://bit.ly/1B4XRpM ) 25-year-old Todd Mandoline of Villa Park faces charges of first-degree murder, arson and property damage in the July 2012 fire in Lombard.

His ex-girlfriend Paula Morgan died in the fire and a man was seriously burned. Prosecutors say Mandoline admitted that he shoved paper into the gas tank of Morgan's car and set it ablaze after he was kicked out of her 25th birthday party.

The flames spread to her house through an attached garage.

Attorneys on Monday will begin choosing 12 jurors and two alternates. A judge says opening arguments could begin on Tuesday.
