Fremd High School band performs in Alamo Bowl halftime performance

Ninety band students from Fremd High School headed to San Antonio during winter break to perform in the Alamo Bowl halftime performance.

The band performed during halftime with 12 other high schools from across the country during a five-day trip starting on Dec. 30.

"It was an incredible performance opportunity," said Matthew Moore, band director at Fremd High School.

Moore said the trip was educationally rewarding for students and also provided many memorable performance opportunities. While he said the entire trip was exciting, one of the highlights was performing at the Pep Rally performance. They also participated in a symphonic band clinic with two college band directors from the University of Texas El Paso. Additionally, the band earned second place in their division during a review competition.

Every two years, the Fremd High School band takes a trip to perform out of state. Students fundraise for each trip and roughly one third of the band attends. Plans for the next trip are not underway, but Moore said he is looking forward to it and will take a poll from parents to figure out where the next one will be.

"We're really fortunate to have the support from our administration and our families to offer trips like this," Moore said. "These opportunities create experiences and memories that students can't get anywhere else."
