Golf Maine Park District receives state grant

The Golf Maine Park District has received a $250,000 grant for the Dee Park redevelopment project, which will focus on enhancing the park's existing natural and recreational features, while incorporating new recreational components.

The grant will include redevelopment of the district's basketball and tennis courts, the improvement of the walking path along the park with the inclusion of new exercise stations, two new soccer pitches and the improvement/movement of an existing cricket pitch.

The park district also will redevelop the sand volleyball area with the inclusion of badminton courts, and add a climbing playground for the older kids, new table tennis tables, and a walking garden with concrete chess and backgammon tables. Redevelopment plans are in the works, with a project completion date of fall 2016.

The grant was announced by Gov. Pat Quinn. The district is one of 75 park and recreation agencies receiving a total of $26 million in Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grants.
