Aurora firefighter charged with aggravated battery

An Aurora firefighter was recently charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery after the Kane County Sheriff's office said he punched a bartender.

Undersheriff Patrick Gengler said in an email that Daniel M. Ahasic, of Aurora, punched a bartender around 1 a.m. on Dec. 22 after the bartender told him he could not smoke in the bar.

A fight followed between Ahasic and one of his friends with other patrons and employees who came to the bartender's defense, Gengler said.

A deputy who was in the area saw Ahasic and another man leave the bar. The deputy investigated and arrested Ahasic.

Ahasic was originally charged with misdemeanor battery because the bartender did not seek medical treatment, Gengler said. But after the sheriff's office got her medical records and completed its investigation, they reviewed the case with the state's attorney's office, who upgraded the charges.

Gengler said Ahasic has a court date later this month.
