Record-breaking effort from St. Viator's Balcerak at Wheeling

St. Viator's Michael Balcerak added to an already impressive freshman season, winning the 100-yard freestyle against host Wheeling on Monday night in a time that broke a Lions program record more than 30 years old.

Balcerak won the 100 in 47.50, breaking the mark of 47.57 set by Mike O'Hare in 1983.

With the advantage of a 1-2-3 sweep in diving (which St. Viator does not offer), Wheeling eked out a 93-90 victory in the nonconference matchup.

Balcerak also had legs on all three winning relays. St. Viator's medley of Shea Boyer, Mitchell Warren, Balcerak and Keegan Finn finished in 1:47.28. The 200 free relay of Balcerak, Boyer, Brandon Calderon and Finn finished in 1:33.51, and the 400 free quartet of Finn, Boyer, Mitchell and Balcerak won in 3:26.93.

Warren (200 IM) and Matt Stack (100 breast) were also winners for the Lions.

Wheeling's top efforts came from double winners Kyle Noel (50 free, 100 fly), Nate Reiff (200 free, 500 free) and from Jake Noel (100 back, 54.72).
