German museum: Kahlo lawsuit can now proceed

MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - Attorneys for a German museum that's suing an Indiana museum over an exhibit featuring replicas of works by famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo says its suit can now proceed.

Munster, Indiana-based South Shore Arts had argued that the lawsuit filed by a German museum called Kuntsmuseum Gehrke-Remund should be dismissed because the two other defendants were part-owned by a German company.

Its motion argued that federal courts lack jurisdiction in cases where both sides have a foreign party.

But the Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports (http://trib.in/1AnLJPk ) the German museum says the case can proceed now that the suit's two other defendants have been dismissed.

The German museum sued South Shore Arts, arguing that the collection of 127 replicas of Kahlo's paintings and other items had been damaged and in serious danger.
