Suspect in 4 Rockford killings due in court

ROCKFORD - The 22-year-old man accused in the shooting deaths of four Rockford people earlier this month is due in a Winnebago County court.

Calvin L. Carter has been charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 20 killings of 24-year-old Martia Flint, her boyfriend 24-year-old Demontae Rhodes and her two sons, 6-year-old Tyrone Smith III and 4-year-old Tobias K. Smith. They were found in a Rockford apartment.

Authorities from Rockford departed Tuesday to retrieve Carter from southern Illinois where he had turned himself in over the weekend on a retail theft charge. That's according to The Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/1D4pZsf).

It was immediately unclear if Carter had an attorney. A listed phone number couldn't be located.
