Arlington Hts. police warn of ticket scam

The Arlington Heights Police Department is warning residents of a new scam targeting Chicago sports fans.

Scammers are posting Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls tickets at artificially low prices on online classified sites Craigslist and Backpage, according to a police alert.

When potential victims contact the scammers, the scammers instruct the victims to go to CVS stores and wire them money via MoneyGram and Western Union. The scammers tell the potential victims that they will email them the tickets once payment is received via wire.

Police said that once payment is sent, the tickets are never emailed to the victims.

Once payment is sent via wire, it is almost impossible to retrieve the funds as they are instantly collected by the scammers at the receiving end. Arlington Heights police advised that anyone who is a victim of this scam, contact the police to report it.
