South Barrington man involved in fatal Wisconsin crash

A South Barrington man driving in northern Wisconsin with his wife and three children early Saturday morning swerved to avoid a woman on the highway, but a trailer behind his truck struck and killed her, authorities said Sunday.

According to the Marinette County Sheriff, Michael Vojack, 51, of South Barrington, called police after finding the woman, Pauline Wallschlaeger, 51, unresponsive in the roadway. First responders weren't able to resuscitate Wallschlaeger and she was pronounced dead at the scene from head and internal injuries.

Authorities said the crash occurred about 4 a.m. Saturday on northbound U.S. Highway 141 in the town of Beecher, about 75 miles north of Green Bay.

According to statement from the sheriff, Vojack told deputies he swerved his pickup to avoid a dark object in the road. The pickup missed the woman, but an enclosed snowmobile trailer the pickup was pulling struck her. No one in Vojack's truck was injured.

Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a factor with Vojack, but is believed to be a factor with Wallschlaeger.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
