Dontre Hamilton supporters to rally in Chicago
Family members and other supporters of a Milwaukee man killed by a city police officer are expected to attend a rally in Chicago with the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The rally and news conference are scheduled for Saturday at Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters.
Former officer Christopher Manney, who is white, shot and killed Dontre Hamilton, who is black, in April. Last week Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm announced his decision not to file charges against Manney, saying the officer acted in self-defense.
Hamilton's family has said the 31-year-old suffered from schizophrenia. Police Chief Edward Flynn fired Manney in October, saying Manney ignored department policy and treated Hamilton as a criminal by frisking him.
U.S. Attorney James Santelle also announced this week that federal investigators will look into the shooting.
