Kane County Health Department announces nutrition bar recall

The Kane County Health Department is alerting residents to a nutrition bar recall because of Salmonella concerns.

San Diego-based Perfect Bar Co. is recalling the Peanut Butter flavor and Cranberry Crunch flavor of nutrition bars as well as a variety pack sold at Costco because of potential Salmonella contamination, the health department said Monday.

No illnesses so far have been associated with the recalled nutrition bars. But according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, and in otherwise healthy people, it can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and cramps.

The natural and organic food company announced the recall on its website, saying it is a precautionary measure. Nutrition bars marked on the back of the wrapper with the lot codes 2814V, 2914V and 3714V are being recalled. Customers are encouraged not to eat the affected bars and to throw them out.

For details, customers can call Perfect Bar customer service at (866) 628-8548, ext. 3.
