Music notes: Incendiary Waco Brothers play post-Christmas show
Live Wacos
The Waco Brothers, a country-punk band with roots in the suburbs, is one of the most fantastic live acts around. If you're looking for a way to burn off some energy after the Christmas holiday, this is the show to check out. 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 26-27, at Schuba's Tavern, 3159 N. Southport, Chicago. $14. Go to lh-st.com.
Rockers on the rise
The Orwells emerged from Elmhurst a few years back with a brash garage-rock sound and infectious songwriting. Since then, the band has won critical acclaim, played major festivals and appeared on national shows like “The Late Show With David Letterman.” The Orwells will perform two shows before a hometown audience next week. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, and 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago. $25 Tuesday, $35 Wednesday. Go to lh-st.com.
Punk icon
Bob Mould led not one but two influential punk-inspired bands — Husker Du in the 1980s and Sugar in the 1990s. He also has a varied and acclaimed solo career, his most recent release being last year's “Beauty and Ruin.” Mould will headline a New Year's Eve show in Chicago. 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $61. Go to metrochicago.com.
