Exaggeration misleads people on religion

On Dec. 13, I was glad to see you covered the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the front page. However, I was immediately turned off and frustrated by your subtitle that stated: "Cupich praises all worshipping Our Lady of Guadalupe."

Please be more careful with your wording. Catholics do not and never have worshipped Mary. The Catholic Church condemns worship of any entity other than God. We honor her with a special love as our mother in faith because she's the mother of Jesus, who is God made man.

Your title may cause confusion among readers. Please try to be more careful next time with correct wording. Correct wording is very important, especially when so many people are reading your paper, many of whom are unfamiliar with topics of faith.

Also, many times throughout Pope Francis' pontificate the Daily Herald has misinterpreted him - judging him as some radical that is out to change the church into more liberal thinking. This is far from the truth. Pope Francis is saying and doing nothing different than his predecessors John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI did.

The media has been causing much confusion lately about Pope Francis and the Catholic Church as a whole. Here is a quote from Pope Francis himself as a response to the media: "Look, I wrote an encyclical, true enough it was a big job, and an apostolic exhortation. I'm permanently making statements, giving homilies; that's teaching. That's what I think, not what the media says I think. Check it out; it's very clear. Evangelii Gaudium is very clear."

I just started reading Evangelii Gaudium myself. I think everyone should try to read it to understand the Christian life and Jesus's teachings more clearly.

Thank you, and merry Christmas,
